LISA ROBERTSON

Lisa Robertson est née en 1961 à Toronto (Canada). Elle est poète, essayiste et traductrice. Elle a déménagé en Colombie-Britannique en 1979, où elle est restée pendant vingt-trois ans. Dans les années 90, elle est membre de la Kootenay School of Writing, un collectif d'écrivains, et de la Galerie Artspeak. De 1988 à 1994, elle a dirigé Proprioception Books, une librairie du centre-ville de Vancouver spécialisée dans la poésie, la théorie et la critique, où elle a également organisé des lectures. Son premier livre, The Apothecary, a été publié aux éditions Tsunami en 1991. Lisa Robertson a publié huit livres de poésie et deux livres d'essais.

Robertson a étudié à l'Université Simon Fraser (1984-1988) avant de devenir libraire indépendante (1988-1994). Depuis 1995, elle est rédactrice et enseignante indépendante. Ses nombreux essais sur les arts visuels contemporains, publiés dans les catalogues des galeries et des musées depuis le milieu des années 1990, sont rassemblés dans son livre Occasional Works and Seven Walks from the Office for Soft Architecture en 2003. En 2017, elle a reçu un doctorat honorifique en lettres de l'Emily Carr University of Art and Design à Vancouver. En 2018, elle a reçu le prix C.D. Wright de la Fondation pour les arts contemporains. Son premier roman, Le Fractal Baudelaire, sera publié par Coach House Books en 2020.

Lisa Robertson was born in 1961 in Toronto, Ontario. She is a Canadian poet, essayist and translator. She moved to British Columbia in 1979, where she remained for twenty-three years. During the 90s, she was a member of The Kootenay School of Writing, which was a writer-run collective, and Artspeak Gallery. From 1988 to 1994 she ran Proprioception Books, a bookstore in downtown Vancouver specializing in poetry, theory and criticism, where she also hosted readings.  Her first book was a chapbook, The Apothecary, published by Tsunami Editions in 1991. She has published eight books of poetry and two books of essays.

Robertson studied at Simon Fraser University (1984–1988) before becoming an independent bookseller (1988–1994). Since 1995 she has been a freelance writer and teacher. Her many essays on  contemporary visual arts, published in gallery and museum catalogues since the mid-1990s, are collected in her 2003 book Occasional Works and Seven Walks from the Office for Soft Architecture. In 2017 she was awarded an honorary doctorate of letters by Emily Carr University of Art and Design in Vancouver, and in 2018 she received the Foundation for Contemporary Arts C.D. Wright Award. Her first novel, The Baudelaire Fractal, will be published by Coach House Books in 2020.
